RIC history is made – two wide-body jets side by side

History was made at RIC in July as two wide-body jets parked side by side at the airport’s air carrier gates.  The Concourse A expansion with two spacious aircraft parking gates at the end of the building made this possible.  Two Boeing 767 aircraft were able to park adjacent one another with room to spare.

While wide-body jets at RIC are not an unusual site it is rare to see multiple passenger wide-body jets at RIC.  The situation developed as the result of a mechanical issue with an aircraft being used for a military charter flight.  A second “rescue” aircraft was brought in to pick up the troops and carry them on to their final destination while the first airplane underwent repairs.

Kudos to the entire Delta Airlines/Unifi team for their hard work and professionalism.  Despite some very challenging circumstances the team worked together to move almost 200 troops and their military duffel bags from one aircraft to another in the summer Virginia heat.
